For OFWs, being an active member of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is a must. Their membership entitles them to many benefits like welfare, medical, and repatriation assistance, while their families can avail of scholarships, training, and livelihood programs.
Fortunately, applying or renewing OWWA membership is easier these days; it can even be done online! If you’re an OFW with a busy schedule and limited days off, you can renew your membership in just three simple steps: register online, pay via GCash, and save your official receipt.
Step 1: Fill Out Form and Upload Documents
First of all, go to the OWWA membership website and fill out the online registration form. You’ll need to enter your personal information, address abroad, Philippine address, and employment details (e.g. employer, contract duration, etc.), plus a valid mobile number and email address.
Likewise, you’ll be required to upload a copy of your Philippine passport bio-page, as well as proof of your latest employment, such as your employment contract, work permit, payslip, or Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). These documents may be uploaded in JPG or PDF format.
After completing the form and uploading your documents, check the “Declaration” statement onscreen before clicking “Submit Application.”
Step 2: Check Email and Pay via GCash
After submitting your application, check your email for a verification message from OWWA. This message will include the amount to be paid and your unique Payment Reference Number (PRN).
Next, log into your GCash app, then select “Bills,” “Government,” and “OWWA.” Enter the PRN and the exact amount indicated in the email. Review the details, then click “Pay.”
Step 3: Save Official Receipt
After making your payment, check your email for a confirmation message from OWWA. The message should contain your OWWA Acknowledgement Receipt. Download this receipt, as it will serve as proof of your active membership with the agency. You can save it on your phone, email, or cloud storage for easy access whenever you need it.
Starting from the date of payment, your OWWA membership is valid for two (2) years. To ensure continuous access to OWWA’s various programs and services, be sure to renew your membership when it expires.
