Why This Matters to OFWs in Hong Kong

For Filipinos in Hong Kong, most of these programs benefit family members back home. But they are also relevant to workers planning their eventual return.

Key situations where these programs can help:

  • Emergencies: The AKSYON Fund and OWWA welfare programs support workers and families dealing with sudden crises.
  • Education: OWWA scholarships help qualified dependents stay in school.
  • Livelihood at home: Packages can help family members earn income while you work abroad.
  • Returning home: Reintegration programs like Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay can help you rebuild financially when you come back for good.
  • Loss and hardship: Disability and death benefits provide a safety net during the hardest times.

Check Eligibility Before Applying

Assistance is not automatic. DMW and OWWA programs each have their own requirements, and not everyone qualifies for every benefit.

Before applying, keep these points in mind:

  • Confirm your OWWA membership. Most OWWA programs are only available to active members and their dependents.
  • Use official channels. Check requirements through the DMW and OWWA websites and their verified social media pages.
  • Ask for help locally. Philippine labor and welfare officers serving OFWs in Hong Kong can guide you.
  • Watch out for fixers. Be cautious of anyone promising fast approval in exchange for fees.

Knowing what is available puts you and your family in a stronger position, whether you need help today or are planning ahead for your return.
